Crucified for Being Innocent By: Dr. Erica Wilson | IT Had 2 Happen™️.

What the Cross Teaches Us About Being Misunderstood, Mistreated, and Still Chosen

Welcome to IT Had 2 Happen™️ with Dr. Erica Wilson. I remember standing in a room full of people I once trusted—smiles on their faces, daggers behind their backs. Rumors whispered louder than truth. Accusations made without evidence. Judgments passed with no consideration of the facts. I was innocent… but I was still crucified in the court of public opinion.

It was a moment that shook me to my core—until I remembered Jesus.

Scripture Focus: Luke 23:34

“Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.’ And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.”

Reflection

Good Friday isn’t just about the cross—it’s about the cruelty of people who can’t see your heart. Jesus was innocent. Sinless. Blameless. Yet they chose a murderer over Him. They formed a crowd, they mocked, they beat, and they crucified the Son of God—knowing deep down He had done no wrong.

And if they did it to Him, what makes us think we’re exempt?

We live in a world that will sometimes punish you for being pure. That will gang up on you for telling the truth. That will crucify your character simply because your light exposes their darkness.

But the cross reminds us:

Being right with God doesn’t mean you’ll be right with man.

Jesus didn’t defend Himself. He didn’t argue. He didn’t curse the crowd.

He looked up and said:

“Father, forgive them…”

How do you forgive people who lie on you?

How do you love those who come together just to tear you apart?

How do you hold your peace when everything in you wants to scream, “I don’t deserve this”?

You remember the cross.

Because IT Had 2 Happen™️.

The betrayal, the injustice, the silence from those who should’ve spoken up—it all had to happen to position you for purpose.

If Jesus had not endured the cross, there would be no resurrection.

And if you don’t endure your cross, you’ll miss the elevation waiting on the other side.

“If you live for people’s acceptance, you’ll die from their rejection. Jesus was perfect and still rejected—so your validation must come from God alone.” — Dr. Tony Evans, Pastor & Theologian

Why I’m Qualified to Write This

I’m not just writing from scripture—I’m writing from scars. I know what it feels like to be wrongly accused, to be left out, overlooked, and publicly crucified for things I didn’t do. But I also know the power of healing, the freedom of forgiveness, and the victory that follows surrender.

I’m a living witness that what people mean for evil, God will always use for good.

A Word for You Today

If they lied on Jesus, they’ll lie on you.

If they turned their backs on Him, they’ll turn on you.

But just like Jesus, you are still chosen, still anointed, still called.

And just like Jesus, you will rise again.

Affirmation Prayer

Father, give me the strength to endure the crosses in my life. Help me to forgive those who speak against me, betray me, or wrongly accuse me. I may be innocent, but I know You are using this for my growth. Remind me that IT Had 2 Happen™️, and that just like Jesus, I will rise stronger, wiser, and more surrendered to You. Amen.

In Closing

Even in your innocence, you may still be crucified by those who misunderstand you—but just like Jesus, you are not defeated. Your pain has purpose. Your rejection is redirection. And your cross is the pathway to resurrection.

IT Had 2 Happen™️ so that you can rise stronger, wiser, and more aligned with God’s will.
