Yesterday Is Not Ours to Recover, But Today Is Ours to Have By Dr. Erica Wilson | IT Had 2 Happen™️

Today, breathe.

Give yourself permission to stop rehearsing the pain.

Let go of the fantasy that the past can be undone.

And lean into the power of this truth:

You survived yesterday. But today, you get to live. Treat yourself to a spa day.

Yesterday Is Not Ours to Recover, But Today Is Ours to Have

She was only eight when she learned how to dry her own tears.

No one came to check. No one noticed the silent cries.

The laughter she once carried in her voice faded into the background,

replaced with a strength that was never meant to be her burden.

She’s grown now. A woman with vision, faith, and purpose—

but sometimes, she still hears that little girl crying.

The one who didn’t feel safe.

The one who felt like a burden.

The one who got good at hiding.

And maybe that little girl lives in you too. Still waiting. Still hurting. Still misunderstood.

We often try to “move on,” but healing doesn’t come from rushing ahead—it comes from pausing long enough to acknowledge what hurt us. We can’t change the pages already written, but with God, we can start a new chapter—today.

Scriptures to Anchor You:

• Isaiah 43:18–19 – “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing…”

• Lamentations 3:22–23 – “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed… great is His faithfulness.”

• Psalm 34:18 – “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Reflection:

• What part of your past still holds you emotionally hostage?

• Who did you become to survive your childhood—and who is God inviting you to become now?

• What would happen if you gave yourself permission to grieve what you didn’t get?

IH2H Question:

What does the little girl inside of you still need to hear—and what’s stopping you from saying it to her?

IH2H Affirmations to Speak Over Your Day:

• I am no longer defined by what broke me.

• God sees every version of me—and loves me completely.

• I am safe, I am healing, I am whole.

• My past has purpose, but my future holds promise.

• I release what I could not change and receive what God is redeeming.

IH2H Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I bring before You the parts of me I’ve hidden, the little girl inside who’s still waiting for healing. I release every painful yesterday into Your hands. Help me stop chasing what cannot be recovered and embrace what You’ve made available today. Speak truth to the places in me that still echo with shame, silence, and sorrow. I receive Your love, Your peace, and Your healing. Today, I choose to walk in the fullness of who You say I am. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

IH2H Food for Thought:

You may never get the apology you deserved. You may never get to rewrite your childhood story.

But you do have today. And with God’s help, today can be a turning point.

You are not broken—you are becoming.

And IT Had 2 Happen™️—because from those pieces, God is building something beautiful.
